It was Doogie Howser, M.D

It was Doogie Howser I was watching when I saw my first loft. At least thats the loft that stands out in my mind. When he drove his car into the living room off the freight elevator. I was SOLD. Dreaming of one day having one of my own was my ultimate dream.

When time and money permitted I found my very first loft. Now sure it wasn't as rustic as Dougie's Loft. They are considered upscale lofts in the traditional definition. It didn't matter to me. All I knew was that I had my warm brick interior that held character and history from a previous life and they were now being utilized in a totally different capacity. My ceiling's were wood-beamed, with huge wooden pillars throughout the space. I had a city skyline view (which I definitely paid for) that was breathtaking. And soon, my loft was the place everyone wanted to come and just hang out.

Creating a website that is dedicated to my passion for Urban Living and Loft Architecture was my next journey in life. With so many different loft developments on the rise in Detroit and surrounding areas, there are a plethora different loft types to choose from. Just like a person's home, their loft space should reflect their personality. Knowing the features you do and don't want before you make a huge decision will save a lot of headaches. Especially with an unbiased open of the property and amenties itself.

As The Loft Critic, I will attempt to set foot in every "true" Loft development in the Metro Detroit area. I'll be paying attention to all of the features, the people on the elevator, and everything outside the front door of your community. I generally don't announce my arrival as I don't want any one going out of their way to appease me.

What qualifies me to be The Loft Critic? My Passion for urban living since I was 13. I pay attention to the details and look for the potential. Any space has great potential when you love it simply because it is yours.

So enjoy the reviews and resources, entertain yourself with the forums, and ask The Loft Critic about anything from properties to design elements. This is sure to be a site you'll want to keep in your favorites as you make your transition to Urban Living in Metro Detroit.
